Trinh Lam’s business, Seattle Saigon, was sparked by a desire to teach her young son how to speak Vietnamese. She moved to the U.S. four years ago from Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. She crafted an alphabet card game to help lay the groundwork of the language for him and decided to share that with the community.

I wanted to keep the culture with him,” she said. “We made the ABCs so he could play and learn.”

The business, which aims to “bring a piece of Vietnam wherever you may be,” expanded into selling chili oil and other handmade goods. Lam’s customers tipped her off to the Jade Market, and she was excited to join the diverse crowd.

 

“It’s a great opportunity to swap pieces of our culture with everyone else,” Lam said. “This is a great place to introduce cultures through cuisine and products.”
